About The Gift Basket

Being a local family run business, we think it is so valuable to support other locally owned businesses as well. Over the last number of years, we have put togher a holiday gift for each of our staff featuring various local artisans and businesses. We also have done a giveaway each year for someone in the community to receive the same gift as well! Keep reading to find out more about what is in this locally sourced gift bag and how you can possibly win one for yourself!

In this year’s gift, we are featuring eleven businesses. Without further a do…let’s meet our makers.

Arty Chick Textiles Tote:

Lori has been working in the textile world since she graduated from fashion design in 1984. She lives in Ottawa and she makes and designs all of her products. Each of the totes were specially designed with care; and have a slightly different and unique look. These bags were dreamed up for this specific gift, a firm fabric to keep its shape, a pocket to tuck special small items in, and handles to boot!

Custom Pens Etc Wooden Pen:

A beautiful handcrafted white maple pen is included in this year’s giveaway. Michael lives in Kemptville and fell in love with woodworking after retiring from the tech industry. He took up wood turning on a lathe just for something to do, and thus a business was born!  Custom Pens Etc has been running for six years and Michael creates not just pens, but bottle stoppers, toothpick and pill holders to name a few.

We are including a spare pen refill as well, but if more are needed, they are a standard size which can easily be purchased through Lee Valley!

Little Victories Coffee:

One of our absolute coffee shops in all of Ottawa. Little Victories doesn’t just make the most incredible coffee;  the culture Jeremie and Andrew have cultivated over the years as they have grown their business makes a positive impact as much as their coffee. A bag of their Sunshine blend coffee is tucked in this gift! We highly recommend going to their shops, located in The Glebe as well as downtown for you to experience their hospitality as well!

Hummingbird Drinking Chocolate:

Hot chocolate/drinking chocolate made by some of the best chocolate makers in the world! I’m not just biased; they have won awards for being some of the best! Based out of almonte, hummingbird chocolate is dreamy and works with various farmers fairly around the world.

Erica and Drew began hummingbird as a passion project just making chocolate for friends and family because they love it so much themselves; and I would say they have turned their love for chocolate into a gift for the masses.

It is just down the street from our office on River Road! Gees Bees story began when Marianne and Matt rescued a colony of bees in the wall of their house in 2009 and they have been making honey ever since! Their spot is worth checking out; it is a sweet little oasis just outside of the city! They have a wide range of wax and honey products for your enjoyment!

CMS pottery:

Located in the quaint town of Russel; Christina has the sweetest little pottery shop in a little shed in her back garden. Earth Wood Studios Candles:

We met Alex and Tiara at our local farmers market in the summer. They were juggling their three littles while selling their products and it felt right to partner with a family who were in the same boat as we are! Alex is the woodworker in the duo; he makes benches and tables as well as the candle boats included in the gift. Tiara processed all of the wax herself; and even made specialized soy candles for a few members of our team.

Ferme St Malo’s Maple Butter:

Etienne and Shannon are the fourth generation running their family dairy farm; They also are the third generation to sell an array of hand crafted maple products from their sugar bush called “maple Grove”. Their family has been dedicated and passionate about agriculture since 1896 when the family farm was established in Saint Pascal Baylon Ontario.

Art By Taura Fridge Magnet/Bottle Opener:

Taura is an artist based out of Kingston, specializing in resin and alcohol art. She usually choses functional items which can be used in the art of entertaining, relationship building and sharing time with friends and family. Her canvases of choice are charcuterie boards, lazy susans and in our case, mini multi-functional fridge magnets (with a bottle opener on the back).
